Vince Young Working on Degree at U of T

Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL

I admire what Vince Young is doing. Back at the University of Texas (he left early to start his NFL career), the Tennessee Titans QB is finishing what he started. He needs 12 credit hours to complete his degree in applied learning and development/youth and community studies and plans to graduate in the spring. What a great example to set for young people who might think an athletic career could bypass the need for an education. Of course, after signing a $58 million contract two years ago, Vince is unlikely to have any financial worries with or without an education.

Nevertheless, VY turned down a chance to attend Super Bowl XLII and all of its parties to focus on his studies. He wants his degree because he doesn’t feel comfortable talking to kids about the importance of education if he didn’t complete his own. Makes sense. The Vincent Young Foundation
is dedicated to serving underprivileged children through programs that focus on inspiring and empowering today’s youth to better utilize the educational and civic opportunities available to them.
