Tomlinson is NFL’s MVP

by David Kindervater on January 4th, 2007

Not surprisingly, San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson was named the Associated Press National Football League MVP for 2006. As a member of the Pro Football Writer’s of America, I just voted for him for the same honor in the Pro Football Weekly postseason awards. (We’re partners with PFW in that regard.) L.T. can do it all (run, catch, block and pass) and there is no player more deserving of this award. He averaged over five yards/carry and about nine yards/reception this season and scored 32 TDs, an NFL record. Ever since I’ve known him, from back in his college days at TCU where I interviewed him as a senior Heisman candidate, I knew he was destined for great things. And he had all the kindness and humility to match his physical talent. I’ve spoken with L.T. probably five separate times now and he never changes. He’s respectful, professional and always thinks before he speaks. I still can’t believe he’s been in the NFL for six years now. As a running back, your “shelf life” isn’t as long as other positions, but I see no reason why he won’t continue at this pace for six more years.
