Terrell Owens in Tears After Loss to Giants
Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens was in tears during a presser after yesterday’s loss to the N.Y. Giants. I was watching it live on NFL Network and it took me by surprise. I think T.O. was physically and emotionally spent after fanatically rehabbing a high ankle sprain to get ready for that NFC Divisional Playoff game. And with the disappointment (and probably shock) that came with the defeat, his emotions just came out in front of the whole world.
I’ve been in NFL locker rooms. I’ve seen players cry before. It’s really no big deal. When you invest everything you have in something you love and it doesn’t turn out the way you had hoped, this can be the end result. Others turn to anger. Some don’t say anything.
I like what Steve Mariucci said in this bit on NFL Network. T.O. is a sensitive person. I would go so far as to say he’s extremely sensitive. Coach Mooch saw this firsthand when he worked with T.O. in San Francisco.
I’m not going to try to get into a big thing about why T.O. is the way he is. I would need a team of doctors at the university level watching him around the clock to help me figure that out. Plus I really don’t care to think about it that much. But I will say that Terrell was well-behaved and a good teammate in Dallas this year, unlike some of his previous seasons (talk to Donovan McNabb and Jeff Garcia, among others). He played well and gave it everything he had. He worked hard. From what I hear, you’d be really pressed to find an NFL player who works harder. And maybe he matured a little, I don’t know. I think he likes where he is and I think he’ll continue to do well here. Next season.
