Record Number of Media to Cover SBXLII

I touched down at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport around 8:20 p.m. local time here in Arizona. The temperature was 59 degrees which wasn’t that much of a culture shock to me. When I left Buffalo it was sunny and in the 30s. The shuttle driver to my hotel said this is a winter storm to them. Ha.
Anyway, I’m here for Media Day tomorrow. I’ll spend two hours at University of Phoenix Stadium (site of Super Bowl XLII) with the New England Patriots and N.Y. Giants before heading back downtown to the Media Center at the Phoenix Convention Center for some afternoon and evening work. I will be among a record 4,786 media members here this year. That total tops the record 4,516 credentials issued last season for Super Bowl XLI in South Florida and includes U.S. and international media comprised of print, television, radio and internet outlets. At his opening presser yesterday, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said:
“The media has a job to do and it is the connection between our football team, our fans and the people who have an interest in the game. The media is the conduit of information from the team to the fans, and the fans are what drive the game.”
The airport was littered with Super Bowl signage. As soon as I got off the plane, the SBXLII logo was everywhere. It’s safe to say that while most of the fans have yet to descend on Phoenix, Super Bowl fever is spreading quickly.
