Pro Football Hall of Fame: Arrival in Canton

Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
Welcome to Canton, Ohio — the birthplace of professional football — and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This is my 4th straight year covering the event and I’ll be blogging from Canton this afternoon and this evening. I can’t tell you how much I love this place and how much it means to me to return here to officially start each new NFL season. I arrived here around 3 p.m. and checked into the Media Work Room located inside the Hall on the second level. The Enshrinement was backed up five hours to 6 p.m. this year, largely due to the blazing mid-summer Ohio sun that typically hits this part of the country. Today is proving to be no different. The temperature when I arrived was a steamy 88°. I have a reserved seat on the field (aka “Radio Row”), but I want no part of it. The climate-controlled Media Work Room suits me just fine.
Today’s Enshrinement will highlight the careers of six former NFL players — Gene Hickerson (Cleveland Browns, 1958-1973); Michael Irvin (Dallas Cowboys, 1988-1999); Bruce Matthews (Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans, 1983-2001); Charlie Sanders (Detroit Lions, 1968-1977); Thurman Thomas (Buffalo Bills/Miami Dolphins, 1988-2000); and Roger Wehrli (St. Louis Cardinals, 1969-1982).
