Pacman Jones to Apply for Reinstatement

Suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Pacman Jones will once again ask National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell to reinstate him into the NFL. His agent, Manny Arora, is planning to send in his latest request on Tuesday. I guess being able to actually work out for teams would increase the appeal to those in the market for a cornerback.
The Titans gave Pacman permission to talk to other teams about a trade, and the Dallas Cowboys have shown the most interest. But the talks have reportedly bogged down over compensation. The hope from Pacman’s camp is that a trade can still happen before the Draft, but I’m not so sure it’s going to. If they can’t get him reinstated, they hope to at least ease the terms of his suspension — which is now going on more than a year — to make him more attractive. Because six arrests since 2005 is, obviously, not so appealing.
I realize we’re dealing with a man’s future here. And Pacman has been on his best behavior as of late. But what’s Commissioner Goodell to do? He already said he’ll consider reinstating Pacman before training camps open in July. Two words jump out at me there — consider and July. My guess is nothing will happen before the Draft. If the Cowboys or any other team wants Pacman Jones on their squad, they’re going to have to work with some amount of blind faith in a man who has given them no reason to do so. I’m not saying it wouldn’t work, but it is quite a risk.
