Mike Holmgren Remains Coach of Seahawks

First, Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy said he was coming back. Now, Seattle Seahawks head coach and GM Mike Holmgren has decided to complete the final year of his contract before resigning in 2009. This is good news for Seahawks fans. During his nine years in Seattle, Coach Holmgren has compiled an 86-68 record and guided the Seahawks to five division titles. During his announcement presser yesterday he said:
“Kathy (his wife) and I came to a decision this weekend to finish my contract, and we’re very happy about it. We’re going to go after it hard one more year.”
As is the case with Coach Dungy, I think Coach Holmgren is a class act. A different personality, yes, but a quality person, a very intelligent man, and a great head football coach. The Seahawks are close to big things and I think that certainly factored into Coach Holmgren’s decision to return for one more year. The Seahawks went 10-6 this past season, capturing their fourth consecutive NFC West Division title and advancing to the divisional round of the playoffs. With a tremendous defense, they’re but an offensive playmaker or two away from making a run in the NFC.
