Michael Vick’s Co-Defendents Schedule Plea Agreement Hearings This Week

Things aren’t looking good for Michael Vick. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on its web site that two co-defendants in Michael’s federal dogfighting case scheduled a plea agreement hearing Monday, indicating the pair will plead guilty and testify against him. Michael is among four men who allegedly formed the business called “Bad Newz Kennels” that are charged with federal conspiracy dogfighting charges.
Purnell A. Peace has a hearing scheduled for Thursday morning while Quanis L. Phillips has a hearing set for Friday morning in U.S. District Court in Richmond, Virginia. Back on July 26, another of Michael’s co-defendants, Troy Taylor, entered into a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. According to the Journal-Constitution, Taylor also signed a document alleging the charges against Michael and two others are true. We can’t really say until the actual pleas, but this doesn’t sound like good news for Michael Vick. Typically, if people plead guilty early in a case, they might be cooperating with the government. That sounds like what is happening here.
The NFL has denied that they’ve already made a decision on Michael’s suspension, but even without this latest news, his chances of getting on the field in 2007 were slim. I believe a year-long suspension will occur before the regular season starts.
