Marquise Hill Found Dead

New England DE Marquis Hill, a second round draft pick by the Patriots in 2004, was found dead today, one day after he was reported missing following a jet ski accident on Lake Pontchartrain. His body was discovered by searchers about a quarter of a mile from where he was involved in the accident. Marquis’ agent, Albert Elias, said he had been told that Marquis and a young woman were jetskiing Sunday in the lake when both of them went into the water. Elias said the woman was able to make it to a pylon and hang on until she was rescued, while Marquis was last seen floating away from the scene. The woman, whose identity was not available today, was rescued and sent to Tulane Medical Center where she told them Marquis had tried to keep her calm as the two were drifting away from each other. Neither Hill nor the woman wore a life preserver.
Matt Mauck, a teammate of Marquis’ in college at LSU said:
“From what I hear he’s done a lot to help with things after Katrina and I know he had a great passion for the city of New Orleans. Off the field he was a really kind person, kind of like a gentle giant. And not only for LSU, but for New England and everyone who got chance to meet him throughout his life. Everyone has to be extremely saddened and disappointed to hear the news.”
Marquis was just 24 years old. I first heard the news that he was missing this morning and had hoped something would develop that he would be found alive. What a tragic incident on this holiday weekend that probably could have been avoided had Marquis just worn a life preserver. Anything can happen out on the water and you just absolutely have to be wearing some kind of life preserver. Furthermore, Petty Officer Tom Atkeson said they should have had a signaling device, which helps authorities find you in the case of a mishap. My thoughts and prayers are with his family today.
