Lance Briggs Agrees to One-Year Deal
Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
Although Lance Briggs previously said he would hold out for 10 games this season, he changed his mind and decided $7.2 million wasn’t chump change, agreeing to a one-year deal as the Bears’ franchise player. Apparently Lance wanted the world and wasn’t able to get it from the Bears or any other team who might have been interested in trading for him. I think Lance Briggs is worth a long-term contract and he’ll most likely get one next season, but he’s doing the right thing by getting on the field and playing through what will be a pretty lucrative year financially. If he doesn’t do anything to damage his already impressive on-the-field rep, he should get that long-term deal he’s looking for in 2008. Although Lance skipped the teams’ offseason workouts and minicamps, he is expected to show up for the start of Bears’ training camp tomorrow.
