Kircus Lucky to Remain With Broncos

by David Kindervater on May 29th, 2007

Think Commissioner Goodell’s new Personal Conduct Policy hasn’t changed things in the NFL? Take this next case as an example. Denver Broncos WR David Kircus nearly lost his job after throwing a punch at a man who ended up in the hospital with multiple facial fractures as a result. But, it was determined, after a lie detector test, that David was merely defending himself and did not throw the first punch. Denver head coach Mike Shanahan had pledged to release David if he was found at fault in the incident. NFL head coaches aren’t fooling around anymore. If a player steps out of line, his days are not only numbered with his current team, but any potential future team. David’s lucky in this situation. He admitted to using poor judgement and being in the wrong place at the wrong time, both of which can get you canned in this new day and age. His actions, however justifiable, had him treading on very thin ice.
