Kevin Everett Injury Update
Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
Here’s an update on my post from yesterday. Buffalo Bills TE Kevin Everett made it through a four-hour surgery last night. But after suffering what doctors called a “catastrophic” and life-threatening spinal cord injury yesterday, his prognosis is unfortunately not good. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Andrew Cappuccino said Kevin’s chances of regaining a full range of body motion are very small and that some permanent neurological paralysis was likely.
This is obviously very troubling news and to think that Kevin is actually fighting for his life is shocking. With typical football injuries, the first thing you usually think of is how long it will be before the player gets back on the field. In Kevin’s case, there are a number of far more important steps. First of all, he is fighting for his life. Secondly, you hope he is able to regain movement and feeling throughout his body. You just hope and pray he won’t be paralyzed. Then, forget about football. Living a normal life is suddenly the primary concern if he gets through those first two steps. Right now, Kevin is still at that first step — fighting for his life.
I’m scheduled to do an interview with Bills WR Roscoe Parrish Wednesday. Roscoe played ball with Kevin at the U and actually arrived in Western New York with Kevin to join the Bills just two years ago. He knows him as well as anyone on the team and as a friend and teammate, his thoughts of football have to be seriously clouded right now as Buffalo prepares to play at Pittsburgh this Sunday.
I worked with Kevin (and Roscoe) at a Thanksgiving benefit for the Northwest Buffalo Community Center a couple years ago when they were both rookies and found him to be a polite and well-mannered young man. My prayers will continue for his recovery. The next couple days will be critical to his healing process.

I just wanted to wish him continued good luck with his progress towards getting better. He is at a great facility for rehab. My mom suffered a stroke @ 10 years and did her rehab over @ TIRR and they really helped her alot. I moved to Houston @ 10 years ago and have always thought the best of Hermann Memorial Hospital and TIRR. my favorites sports team is the Dallas Cowboys but I do watch other teams too. When a player suffers a bad injury it really reminds you that the NFL Football games aren’t really a game. For the players that their “Job”.
