JaMarcus Russell Signs Richest Rookie Contract Ever, Set to Join Oakland Raiders
Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
JaMarcus Russell agreed in principle last night to a six-year contract that will guarantee him in the neighborhood of $30 million in the richest signing ever for a rookie. JaMarcus met with the Raiders today and was hashing out final details of the contract. The paperwork needs to be approved by the NFL, but it will reportedly be worth at least $60 million with about $30 million guaranteed. An official announcement should happen today or tomorrow.
I know he’s making too much money to stand around and watch, but I doubt if JaMarcus will see the field this season. The Raiders actually look like they might win some games this year, despite dropping their season-opener to the Lions, 36-21. Unless the team just falls out of contention early on, I think this is a “redshirt” year for JaMarcus to watch and learn from Josh McCown and Daunte Culpepper.
