Instant Replay Voted Permanent

by David Kindervater on March 27th, 2007

On Day Two of the NFL’s Annual Meetings, owners voted 30-2 to make instant replay a permanent officiating tool. I would have voted in favor as well. There’s really no other way to look at it. The game moves so fast. It’s impossible for officials to make the right call all the time. With instant replay as part of the rules, the right call can always be made. Well, almost always. An interesting twist is that all but three stadiums will be equipped with new high-definition equipment and will be recabled before the upcoming season, at a cost of as much as $300,000 per club. The stadiums being replaced in Irving, TX, Indianapolis and East Rutherford, NJ, will understandably not get the updates.
