Favre Will Return For 2007 Season

by David Kindervater on February 2nd, 2007

Brett Favre announced to the Sun Herald in Biloxi, MS today that he would return for a 17th NFL season to continue quarterbacking the Green Bay Packers. The biggest reason I’m not surprised by this decision is the success of the Packers in ‘06. Here’s a team, led by Favre and full of young talent, that competed for a playoff spot into the final week of the regular season. Granted, they were 8-8, but it was enough promise for Brett to feel good about the team’s chances of getting to Super Bowl XLII next season. He also has the uncertainty of a coaching change behind him.

I know there are mixed emotions for football fans. Some want to see him hang it up and call it a career, but I believe these people are just tired of the mainstream media turning his last five seasons into some kind of farewell tour. Let the man play football and just enjoy watching him perform. (Packers backup QB Aaron Rodgers just wants him out so he can finally start.)

To me, Brett is still playing at a high enough level to warrant his return. I like Brett Favre. I’m a fan. I want to see him continue to play. So, I’m happy that he’ll be back.
