Eight is Enough: Tennessee Titans Kicker Rob Bironas Sets NFL Record for Field Goals
Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
Did you have Tennessee Titans K Rob Bironas on your fantasy team today? Probably not because he only had four FGs entering today’s game with Houston. But if you somehow received divine inspiration to pick him up, you’re smiling because he not only set a new NFL record with eight — yes eight — field goals, but his final kick won the game for the Titans who outlasted Houston 38-36. It was a dream day for Rob. Winning any game is a dream day for a kicker, but to set an NFL record in the process — it can’t get any better. The Texans had scored 29 4th quarter points in a furious comeback to take the lead, but Rob’s 29-yarder as time expired won it for Tennessee. His kicks were from 21, 25, 28, 29 (2), 30, 43 and 52, but he wasn’t keeping track:
“I knew we’d hit quite a few, but I try not to count. I try not to know the distances when I go out there, so I’m always concentrating on making the same kick. I’ve never really counted. I’ll remember this one, though.”
Thinking about picking up Rob next week when the Titans play the Raiders? You might want to check with The Fantasy Kickoff before pulling the trigger.
