Did the Patriots Disrespect the Redskins?

I can’t believe what Washington Redskins LB Randall Godfrey said to New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick after their game yesterday. Of course, New England won easily 52-7, but Randall felt the Pats had run-up the score. According to NBCSports.com, Randall had this to say:
“I said something to [Belichick] after the game. I told him, ‘You need to show some respect for the game.’ You just don’t do that. I don’t care how bad it is. You’re up 35 points and you’re still throwing deep? That’s no respect. You look at all the great head coaches … I’m just disappointed. You gotta show some class, show some respect. Joe Gibbs? We wouldn’t have done that. Bill Walsh? You wouldn’t see those types of guys doing that stuff. I’ve never seen nothing like that. Most teams, you get up like that you sit on the ball and try to run the time out. They’re up 30-some points and they’re throwing deep. That was blatant disrespect. I hope we can see them again, definitely. You don’t see Joe Gibbs doing that. You can’t even imagine that kind of stuff coming from him. Joe Gibbs. Bill Walsh. Bill Parcells. This isn’t like college going for power rankings. This is the pros. You show some respect, show some class.”
OK, what this isn’t is Pop Warner football. In Pop Warner you don’t run-up the score. In high school football you don’t run-up the score. Sometimes in college football, depending on the situation, you don’t run-up the score. In pro football, don’t be a crybaby. You’re all professional athletes who are paid a lot of money to play the game. If you can’t stop the other team, too bad for you. There is such a thing as sportsmanship, but I raise the question to Randall Godfrey: What did you want the Patriots to do? Take a knee? Stop playing because they might hurt your feelings? We’re not talking about a bunch of children out there.
This was a topic of discussion on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown tonight and Bill Parcells (who I have a lot of respect for, plus he’s always been nice to me) said the coach is in a no-win situation. If he tells his QB to take a knee, that could be interpreted as disrespect. Same thing with literally running out the clock. What can you do? Even coach Gibbs said he didn’t have any problem with coach Belichick’s decisions.
As far as wanting to meet the Patriots again, I don’t really think you want to do that, Randall. In fact, you should want to stay as far away as possible from that team until you’re good enough to stay on the field with them. Sheesh. Unbelievable.
