Daunte Culpepper Basking in the Afterglow, Oakland Raiders QB Torches Former Team
Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
When Daunte Culpepper left the Miami Dolphins back in training camp, he was an unwanted man. The team dealt for QB Trent Green as his replacement and released Daunte to a less-than-enthusiastic league. The Oakland Raiders would take a chance and four games into this 2007 season, Daunte got his. Yesterday, he ironically returned to Miami to make his first start with his new team and torched the Miami defense for five TDs (three running and two passing) in an impressive 35-17 road win. After watching the highlights of this game, it’s very clear he has no ill effects from the knee injury that left him still hobbled while in Miami last season. I know he worked his rear end off to make it back to this point and I’m happy that he proved to everyone that he could still play.
As far as the Raiders are concerned, they can redshirt Jamarcus Russell and plan on a playoff spot if Daunte and an impressive ground game continues to literally run the show. Anytime a quarterback gets the assistance of 300 rushing yards (of course, 28 were of his own doing), you can bet he’s got a great chance of winning that game.
