Darian Barnes’ National Triumph League Comic to Become Animated Series

Having achieved professional success while pursuing a lifelong passion, New York Jets FB Darian Barnes will realize yet another childhood dream. His very own comic book, National Triumph League, will be adopted and produced into an animated series. Recently signed by NEHST Studios — a cutting-edge diversified production, financing, and distribution company — Darian’s comic has been many years in the making.
An avid comic book reader since childhood (his favorites include Batman and Punisher), Darian came up with the concept for National Triumph League during his freshmen year at Rutgers with friend and collaborator Joshua Goldfond. Along with co-creator Joshua, Darian has written story lines and overseen illustrations. Joshua, a freelance story editor, is an accomplished writer who has involved himself with the creation of the films Gutterball and the AFI-produced independent short A through M. Now with the help of NEHST Studios, the National Triumph League will leap from the pages of the comic book on to the screen.
National Triumph League follows ten teams of superhero “Triumphants” who must balance celebrity and heroism to succeed in the world’s most important sports event. Echoing the stressful lives of professional athletes, Triumphants are traded between cities and must defeat villains in a world governed by strict government rule and corrupted by crass commercial values. The “Triumphants” are equal parts superhero, living god, and movie star, yet despite the winning sum of their parts, they struggle constantly against the daily pressures on their bodies and souls. Inspired by the world in which today’s athletes live, the project provides a unique commentary using science fiction as a lens to portray the physical and personal perils of celebrity sports stars.
The selection of Darian’s comic for film production is just one of a bunch of successful projects undertaken by NEHST Studios. This next-gen entertainment company has set up a traveling workshop, the Aspiring Filmmakers Bootcamp, and runs PitchNEHST.com. Chairman and Founder Larry Meistrich is the producer of films Belly, You Can Count On Me, and the Academy Award-winning Sling Blade.
