Dallas Wins Super Bowl XLV Bid

It really came down to numbers. Dallas beat out Arizona and Indianapolis as the host city for the 2011 Super Bowl because they could offer over 100,000 seats, roughly 25% higher than Indy or AZ. You do the math. That’s a lot of extra revenue. The league intends to sell at least 10,000 tickets to fans who will sit in the plazas at each end of the stadium and watch only on television, while inside, capacity will be about 93,000.
As much as I wanted Indianapolis to win this bid, they simply couldn’t compete with what North Texas had on the table. Or in the works, I should say. The Cowboys’ new retractable-roof stadium is still under construction in Arlington, TX. Can’t wait for the grand opening in 2009? Follow a live feed of the construction, take a stadium fly-through, and listen to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gush at stadium.dallascowboys.com.
