Can you believe the finish to the Cleveland Browns / Baltimore Ravens game today? The Browns trailed 30-27 on the final play of regulation when kicker Phil Dawson attempted a 51-yard kick to tie the game. The ball hit the left upright and seemingly bounced off the crossbar before bounding into the end zone. The officials called the kick no good and the Ravens ran off the field, celebrating a victory in which they scored 16 straight points in the fourth quarter, the last three on a 47-yard field goal by Matt Stover with 26 seconds left. Accordingly, many of the Browns’ players walked off in stunned silence after the kick. Several Cleveland players, however, insisted that Phil’s kick hit the curved center support behind the crossbar. They gathered in the end zone, pointing at the spot where the football struck before bouncing back. And they were right. After a lengthy discussion, the officials ruled the kick passed through the uprights and called the teams back onto the field. The Browns took the kickoff in OT, drove 43 yards in nine plays and Phil kicked another field goal, this time a 33-yarder to win it.

Sometimes it’s just not your year and that’s what the Ravens have to be thinking. Can you imagine being in that locker room after this game? Ray Lewis was already taking tape off his ankles when he found out the game wasn’t over. The loss dealt a severe blow to any playoff hopes Baltimore had left as they dropped to 4-6. As for Cleveland, I believe this team is not only going to the playoffs, but they have a legit shot at winning the AFC North. Now at 6-4, I think they will look back on this miracle finish as the turning point that got them to the postseason.
