Brett Favre Issues Statement
Brett Favre was pretty upset that his Green Bay Packers didn’t get Randy Moss, who instead was dealt by the Oakland Raiders to the New England Patriots over NFL Draft weekend. According to quotes from Brett during a charity golf event this past weekend, the Packers could have gotten Randy Moss for less money than what New England paid. He also said that Randy wanted to come to Green Bay and play for the Packers. He was openly critical about the non-move and it started all sorts of Favre trade rumors, which sparked this statement, released today by Brett at Packers.com:
“I was frustrated a couple weeks back when Randy Moss was traded to New England. I never wanted to be traded and I don’t want to be traded. I want to be in Green Bay. I want to finish my career as a Packer. Sometimes when I get frustrated I let my emotions get the better of me. As I said in February when I announced that I was coming back, I am excited about the young talent on our team and the improvements we’re going to see from one year to the next. I really enjoy the young guys I’m playing with. I’m working hard down in Mississippi right now, rehabbing, and I plan to be in the best shape of my life. I look forward to playing with this team and seeing what we can do. I think we can be pretty good.”
Randy Moss is better off in New England than he would have been in Green Bay. Or anywhere else in the NFL for that matter. I’m sure just about any team (except the Raiders) feels they would be a better team with Randy, but the truth of the matter is that Randy Moss’ ship came in full sail when the Patriots threw him a life preserver to get him out of Oakland. He’ll shine in New England. And the Patriots will win the Super Bowl this season. As for the Pack — well, they’ll contend for the NFC North title, but any playoff advancement will be a long shot.

I agree that Moss is in the best possible situation in New England. He has the potential to revive his career thanks to the golden arm of Tom Brady, though he shouldn’t be expected to catch more than 1200 yards and 8-9 touchdowns. Brady will still spread the ball around, much unlike Daunte Culpepper did during Moss’s stay in Minnesota.
That said, Moss could have thrived in Green Bay as well. Obviously, it’s no secret Favre wanted him, evidenced by his reactions and offer to restructure his contract a la Brady.
