Adrian Peterson Expected Back for Vikings

After missing two games with a torn LCL, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is expected back in the lineup (he was listed as probable on yesterday’s injury report) as the Vikes host the Detroit Lions in a crucial NFC North battle with serious playoff implications. The Vikings (5-6) currently trail Detroit (6-5) by a game and both teams are trying to secure a wild card spot in the NFC. Not only is it important for Minnesota to get AD back, it’s important for the league. Adrian will continue his quest for rookie records (he has 1,081 yards rushing so far) and Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record, which is looking nearly impossible after missing the past two weeks. AD is also first at his position for Pro Bowl votes by fans so you know the league wants to see him back on the field ASAP.
I’d be surprised to see Adrian play a full game tomorrow. I think he’ll test that knee, see what a hit or two feels like and then go from there. The Vikings are o.k. at running back with Chester Taylor, but in the long run, if a playoff berth is to be earned, they’ll need both players to carry the load and keep the pressure off QB Tarvaris Jackson. And what I mean by that is the Vikings are not going to beat many teams throwing the football. Tarvaris needs to manage the game, make 15-20 smart throws in four quarters and let the O-line and RBs do the rest offensively.
