Adam Vinatieri Ends Slump, Kicker Hits 24-Yard FG to Lead Colts over Chiefs

by David Kindervater on November 18th, 2007

Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL

Adam Vinatieri hasn’t been himself lately. Arguably the best clutch kicker in the history of the National Football League, Adam missed a kick that would’ve won last week’s game against the San Diego Chargers and started this afternoon’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs with two misses. The hometown fans were booing. Can you believe that? What have you done for me lately? The slump saw him missing four straight kicks. But his 27-yarder tied the score at three just before the half and his 24-yarder won it with four seconds left. Slump over. And the injury riddled Colts got a much-needed win after dropping their last two games. Afterwards, Adam said:

“Every time you’re out there, if something bad happens, you’ve got to be able to shrug it off and go back out there and forget about it if you can. Don’t let it linger longer than you have to.”

Words of wisdom from (still) the most clutch kicker in the history of the NFL. Adam may not be having his best year (he’s currently 16 of 20 on FGs and 27 of 29 on PATs), but when a ballgame is on the line, he’s still the kicker I want on my team.
